Early FAFSA — What is it?
In a national effort to help families get more accurate financial aid information at an earlier date for the 2017-2018 academic year, the Department of Education has moved up the date by which you can first file a FAFSA from January 1, 2017 to October 1, 2016. The FAFSA will use 2015 tax information, or what is referred to as prior-prior year data. This means families do not have to struggle getting their 2016 taxes and the FAFSA completed as soon as possible after January 1, 2017. Historically, the January filing date has always made it difficult for families and schools to get accurate financial aid application information in a timely way so that students can be provided with correct financial aid eligibility numbers rather than sometimes looking at estimates.
Step 1: Read our International Student Financial Aid Filing Instructions—this guide lays out which forms and paperwork you will need to submit, and when you need to submit them.
Step 2: All international students, regardless of whether you are applying for aid, must submit the COA Certification of Finances form. Your application for admission to COA can not be reviewed until this form has been submitted.
Step 3: Complete and submit the COA Financial Aid Application for International Students along with corroborating documents such as bank statements, tax returns, or pay stubs.
