Syllabus

In general, we will use the morning and some late afternoons for shooting in the field, and the middle of the day - when the lighting is not as good - for processing images in the computer lab. However, weather conditions will dictate how we will organize the day. In addition, the lab work, outlined below, will move at a pace that is determined by the participants.

The preceding syllabus is only a 'guide' to how the course will proceed. The skill and interest level of the participants will shape the way the course progresses over the ten days we have together.

Shooting Locations (including A possible day trip to Great Duck Island!)

We will spend much of our time in Acadia National Park. The 'loop road' will give us access to Frenchman Bay, a variety of beaver ponds, Wild Gardens of Acadia, Schooner Head Overlook, Sand Beach and Grand Head, Thunder Hole, Otter Point, Jordan Pond, Bubble Rock, Bubbles Pond, Eagle Lake, and Cadillac Mountain.

As time permits and based on the participants interest and physical conditioning, we might hike the Witch Hole Carriage Road, and the Hadlock Carriage Road. Other possible shooting locations include Asticou Terraces, Thuya Garden, and Asticou Azalea Gardens. We will also photograph Somes Sound from different locations along Sargeant Drive.

We will spend one of our all-day shoots on the western side of Mount Desert Island to capture images of lobster boats and sailboats at Manset, and Bass Harbor, and onto Blagden Preserve to look for seals. Before returning, we'll try to shoot the sunset at Pretty Marsh looking across to Bartlett Island if conditions are favorable.
