"I knew I had a lot of learning to do. At COA I was able to build the classroom for the learning I needed to do."
Eamonn Hutton '05

Intermediate Drawing - AD058

Meets the following requirements: AD

In order to help students develop their own artistic vision, this course emphasizes "sketching" over "drawings" and encourages experimentation with various kinds of subject matter.  More specifically this class focuses on three-dimensional form using line.  As such we begin the class with exercises such as contour drawing to enhance line quality.  We then progress to planar analysis and still life.  For the next four weeks all the earlier exercises such as gesture drawing, contour drawing, and planar analysis are used to analyze the figure.  Finally in the last four weeks our attention shifts to
composition, positive/negative spaces, and value.  Weather permitting we work in the field drawing landscape.

Level:  Intermediate.  Prerequisite:  previous drawing or painting course or permission of instructor.  Offered every other year.  Class size: 15.  Lab fee $25.  *AD*
