"If you're looking to be pushed to your limits... and constantly redefining yourself... then this is the place for you."

Performance Art - AD224

Meets the following requirements: AD

Throughout the twentieth century, artists have used performance as a medium to challenge art
categories and traditions.  Performance art can employ aspects of theater, pop culture, circus, dance, ritual, music, spoken word, visual and media arts.  This course focuses on the practice and production of making performance work.  Class meetings will be mostly workshop in style, including physical/vocal warm-ups; in-class writing and performance practice; presentation of student projects followed by group critiques; informal presentations by the instructor related to the history, theory and practice of performance work; and group discussions of readings.  Students will be assigned projects that encourage the exploration of ideas, creativity and experimentation.  Examples of performance and interdisciplinary media art will be shown.  Students will have an opportunity to expand their portfolios by photographing and/or videotaping their projects.

Level:   Introductory. Previous art course(s) recommended.  *AD* Lab fee $30
