This class focuses on developments in Ecology during the course of the past 35 years with particular attention to the implications of ecological theory and practice in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Readings will be taken from primary sources, and the class will be conducted in a seminar style with active discussion and debate encouraged. Topics to be covered include the roles of predation, competition, life history, and disease in the assemblage of landscapes and communities. We will also examine the question of whether there are "laws" or overarching paradigms in ecology. Assessment will be based on participation and a series of written problem sets.
