Animal Physiology - ES408

Meets the following requirements: ES   

This course examines the physiology of animals, including structure, function, and regulation of organ systems. Unifying principles of homeostasis and natural adjustments to stress will be discussed. Topics will include Energetics, gas exchange, osmoregulation and excretion, enzymatic interactions and the role of hormones in development and reproduction.  Primary emphasis will be placed on whole organismal biology. Students will be evaluated on the basis of class participation, a mid-term and final examination, and a term project. 

Level:  Advanced.  Prerequisites extensive background in chemistry and basic animal biology, permission of Instructor.   Class limit: 5    *ES*
