The History Workshop: Theory and Practice of Historical Reserach - HS287

Meets the following requirements: HS HY

This course is an intensive pro-seminar on historical methods and research.  Using local historical resources and themes the course emphasizes the design, implementation, and then writing up of a major research project based on primary sources.  Field trips to local historical sites, archives, and communities play a key role in the course.  From the understanding of local sources and resources we branch out to explore national and international research collections.  Themes explored include the historical geography of Mount Desert and environs, the development of local timber, fisheries, and lobstering industries, and the growth of tourism in the region.

Level:  Intermediate/Advanced.  *HS*  *HY*
