This tutorial resulted from the students' interest in food and culture. The students shared a set of common readings with the instructor, and we decided to go from there and build a bibliography which would be the basis for a future course in food and culture, a topic the breadth of which demands the perspective of human ecology. Our concerns are for food politics and security, the deterioration of food quality and diversity, and we are fascinated with traditions which both provide identities and a desire to share them. With our bibliographic work, we expect to deepen our understanding of individualized interests while gaining breadth to our understanding of this complex topic. It is also our expectation that this bibliography will act as a continuing resource for others. Weekly meetings will allow for the sharing of materials and progress reporting. Evaluation will be based on weekly contributions, the jointly compiled bibliography, and individual summary statements.
