John Visvader, received his B.A. in Philosophy from the City College of New York, and a Ph.D in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota where he worked at the Minnesota Center for the Philosophy of Science and minored in Psychology and Sociology. He also studied the Philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein at the University of Nebraska with O.K. Bouwsma. JV taught Humanities at the Univ. of Minnesota, taught Philosophy at the Univ of Colorado where he won several teaching awards, taught Taoism at the Naropa Institute, and Psychology at Husson College. JV has been at the College of the Atlantic since 1986 where he teaches a large variety of courses in the areas of the philosophies of Science and Technology, Philos of Nature, Chinese Philosophy and Poetry, Intellectual History, Comparative Mysticism, and special courses in the philosophies of Wittgenstein, Heidegger and Derrida. JV also teaches Tai Ji, Aikido staff and sword and enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, and running.
