We're Looking for Imagination. We're Looking for Idealism. We're looking for You.
Are you ready to connect with the world? Ready to take your thoughts, opinions and spirit to the global community? Ready to identify, understand -- and then, to address -- the myriad of challenges our world is facing? Ready to show how your unique blend of intellect, energy and imagination can lead you to amazing, unforeseen things?
If so, then get ready to pack your bag for a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine. Because College of the Atlantic is looking for you.
Tell Us About Yourself. In Person.
You are invited to apply to become part of our annual Presidential Scholars' Fall Fly-In Program, which begins the afternoon of Thursday, September 25, and concludes the morning of Sunday, September 28. |
COA has never been about getting in line or following the herd. When most colleges and universities want to evaluate you based on a series of numbers and scores, we want to get to know you. Sure, sometimes numbers and scores are important, but we're more interested in finding thoughtful and engaged individuals who will enhance our community and fit with the college's personality.
That's why we're so excited about the Fall Fly-In. This amazing program allows us to truly get to know you; to get to know you as a student and as an individual; to learn about your passions, about how you want to create change, about what you want to contribute to the world. To get a sense of your academic and personal background. And to share with you all about the life-changing aspects of the COA experience.
Having the chance to sit and talk with you face-to-face is important to us. That's why COA covers all the associated costs of a visit to campus for Fall Fly-In participants; your travel, and your meals and housing. As we've said, we want to get to know you. The Fall Fly-In Program helps make that possible.
| Presidential Scholars' Fall Fly-In
Each year COA selects a number of students to receive a Presidential Scholarship, a renewable four-year award. If you have a passion for learning and a strong desire to create change, you could be an ideal student for College of the Atlantic and a strong candidate for the Presidential Scholarship.
During our four-day Presidential Scholars' Fall Fly-In, you will talk at length with COA faculty members, meet with your assigned advisor and interact with students. From informal potlucks with professors to late-night conversations in the residence halls, from field experience in Acadia National Park to an art class in one of our studios, we will immerse you in COA life.
While you're getting to know us better, we'll be getting to know you, too. An interview with an admissions staff member -- along with feedback we receive from the various faculty you meet, and your official application to the college -- will help us select our Presidential Scholars. |

Apply for the Fall Fly-In Today! Here's How:
1) By July 25, 2008, send us a copy of your school transcript (or your most recent report card) and an essay addressing the following:
"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts." -- Rachel Carson
You should plan to write about a place that means a great deal to you. Maybe it's a remote location like a stream you discovered as a child exploring the woods. Or it could be the silhouette of your city as you head to school each day. Describe this place, its role in your life, and connect it back to the above quote.
Send essays and transcripts to: College of the Atlantic
Admission Office - Fall Fly In Program
105 Eden Street
Bar Harbor, ME 04609
2) We will contact you by August 8, 2008, to let you know you've been selected to join us for the Presidential Scholars' Fall Fly-In. We will then work with you to make travel arrangements for your visit to campus from September 25 through September 28, 2008.
Please note that while you do not need to attend the Presidential Scholars' Fall Fly-In to be considered for COA's Presidential Scholarship, having a chance to meet and interact with you face-to-face is important for us as we assess your gifts and goals. If you are unable to participate in the Fall Fly-In, we strongly urge you to visit campus at another time, such as our Fall Tour on Monday, October 13, through Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
