Sculpt with natural objects like Andrew Goldsworthy, create a landscape of Mount Desert Island like Thomas Cole, or magnify a flower in your painting like Georgia O'Keefe.  We'll explore with the eye and tools of artists during this session. There will be opportunities to explore many art forms, including writing, carving, drawing, performing.  We'll find inspiration in nature and use natural materials in our projects.  Whether taking a closer look at a feather or a grand view of Somes Sound, we'll be keenly observing our environment.  There will be plenty of games and activities too!

ECO QUEST

July 28th through August 1st
Geocaching, letterboxing, map and compass skills and more fun!  We'll do some treasure hunting around Mount Desert Island during this week of exciting searches.  Learn how to orienteer, follow a compass course, and how GPS works.  Find some natural treasures, as well as hidden caches.  Hide your own treasure and create clues to its secret location.

THE COASTAL SCENE
Two-week session (9 days): Residents $315/ Non-residents $350
August 4th through 14th
Meet the people and places that make coastal Maine unique.  Investigate the intertidal zone, salt marshes, and other salt water habitats.  Search for sea stars, press seaweed, and peek at plankton while investigating life on the rocky coast.  In our travels we'll visit a coastal industry, meet scientists, and learn about how people enjoy, rely on and interact wth this coastal environment.  Canoe, swim, and play games, too.
