An Overview:
For this project,  data was created from GPS points, tracks, and from personal knowledge of the camp grounds in order to create a GIS map of Camp Beech Cliff. Also, existing CAD data was converted to coverages and shapefiles (GIS formats) to use in the map. The preliminary purpose of this map is a gift to Camp Beech Cliff, so that a more accurate and aesthetically pleasing large map may hang in their office and remind them of the property over which they preside.

Another aspect of this project, slightly removed from the cartographic work, was the preliminary manipulation of CAD data to GIS formats. This now allows the new GIS data to be used in future projects.

Map Summary:
This is a map of Camp Beech Cliff created by taking points with a GPS handhold unit, tracks, personal knowledge, and CAD data. CAD data was received from a member of the Board of Directors for Camp Beech Cliff. In order to use the CAD data, ArcInfo Workstation was used to create a new geographic coordinate system. Four way points taken with the GPS unit were used as tics to create a geographic coordinate system for the CAD data.
