Today @ COA

I was looking for a holistic environmental approach. COA was the best out there - and I exhausted myself with research.

Egg Rock Dive Site

By Genelle Harrison   Fall 2006

An Overview:
These two maps were created for Diver Ed, a COA alumni and owner/operator of a dive charter business in which he frequently takes passengers by a small local island, Egg Rock. The maps are intended for use by passengers and will allow viewers to see where Egg Rock is located on a map, what the bathymetry of the bottom is like using a 3-D model, and the types of marine life found in Maine.

Map Summary 1:
The first map shows different biological characteristics such as depths around Egg Rock and has some advertising qualities for Diver Ed's dive charter business.  In the depth map, an aerial photograph of Egg Rock was used as a map layer.  Over that map layer is a model showing the depths around egg rock in different shades of blue. The layout includes several photographs of local flora and fauna and pictures of Diver Ed.

Map Summary 2:

The second map shows more physical characteristics.  The base maps are the same aerial photograph with the same layer showing depth by shading.  Using ArcScene, several "pictures” were taken of a three dimensional model of Egg Rock and these were added to the map. A small map incorporating both an aerial photograph of Egg Rock with depth corresponding to points was also added. The points were labeled with the depth in feet.
