Safe Routes to School

By Rachel Adler   Winter 2006

An Overview:
For this project, maps were created to enhance Healthy Acadia's application for state funding through the "Safe Routes to School” project.  The goal of the project was to identify where Bar Harbor youth are in relation to the Conners-Emerson elementary school, and identify if they are within walking/biking distance of the school.

Map Summary:
This map shows the locations and densities of Conners-Emerson students in relation to the school. In order to illustrate how far a student may have to walk or bike to reach the school, an inset map showing a 1/2 mile and 1 mile buffer is also included in the map.

Contacts were made with several people including individuals from Healthy Acadia, the Bar Harbor town planner, and the principal of Conners-Emerson elementary school.
