Mission Statement

The College of the Atlantic Archives and Special Collections has been established to serve scholars in research and education. The main focus of the archives is to appraise, collect, organize, describe, make available and preserve official college records of historical value to the college. The college will also collect non-official and non-university records of unique value known as the Special Collections. The Special Collections' main focus is to enhance and contribute to the college's various academic interests. The Archives and Special Collections seek to serve as the ongoing institutional focal point for the documentation, study and appreciation of history and activities of College of the Atlantic.

Collection Development Policy

Scope of Materials - Archives
The collections of the College Archives are rich sources of information regarding academics, administrative concerns, governance and student life. Included are:

• Records of student organizations
• Professional and personal papers of members of College of the Atlantic's faculty, administrative staff, board of trustees, and past presidents
• Student final projects, group work and papers
• College Publications
• Photographs, negatives, slides, films, video and sound recordings
• Theses completed by College of the Atlantic students
• Maps, drawings, blueprints and other architectural drawings, prints and posters
• Records of campus offices, including academic, administrative
• Minutes and charters of college committees

Scope of Materials - Special Collections
• Biographical information
• Teaching material
• Publications - these could include copies of articles, books, reviews and artwork
• Photographs, slides, films, video and sound recordings
• Professional correspondence
• Personal correspondence

Hours

The Archives is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 - 3:30, or by appointment. Please feel free to email the archives at  ihill@coa.edu or call 207.288.5015 ex.212 to set up an appointment.

Senior Projects and the COA Collection are available  to view during the hours the library is open.
