
Fifty-five percent of COA graduates enter graduate or professional school within five years. The following is a list of some of our recent graduates who focused in literature and writing while at COA and in their careers.
• Jessica Bradshaw (2003) is a researcher and writer for Project Vote Smart.
• Darron Collins (1992) earned a Ph.D. in Ethnobotany and served for several years as Book Review Editor and Regional Forest Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Wildlife Foundation. Darron now serves as director of development for the Amazon Conservation Team.
• Val Cope (1996) earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and is currently working in public relations at WCI Communities in Florida. Her recent article, "Bridging Lee," recently appeared in Times of the Islands, Southwest Florida's Island Coast Magazine.
• Jenny George (2001) has published poetry and recently completed the creative writing program at the University of Iowa known as the Iowa Writer's Project.
• Lois Hayes (1979) is a publisher and editor for South End Press in Boston, Massachusetts, publisher of Noam Chomsky, Bell Hooks, Arundhati Roy, Jeremy Brecher, and other notable writers.
• Michael Kaiser (1983) served for a number of years on the College of the Atlantic board of trustees and recently published The Official eBay Guide to Buying, Selling, and Collecting Just About Anything.
• Bori Kiss (2002) is working as a researcher on projects fo Center for European Studies in Belgium
• Phil Kunhardt III (1977) received a Master of Divinity from the Episcopal Divinity School. He has co-authored three books, including Lincoln: An Illustrated Biography and was the writer and producer of "The American President," a ten-hour mini-series for PBS.
• Marie Malin (2001) is now communications coordinator for Maine Audubon. Her piece "Loons on a Shoestring" was granted a Golden Arrow Award by the Maine Public Relations Council in 2003.
• Mindi Meltz (1999) wrote a philosophical novel on womanhood and water praised by author Terry Tempest Williams and is now training to be a Jungian therapist at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology.
• Josie Sigler (1999) has taught at the college level for several years. She has published several poems and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Literature at the University of Southern California.
• Rita Turner (2001) recently completed two years of teaching English in Baltimore city schools and has written a book about her experiences.
• Amanda Witherell (2000) is a reporter for the San Francisco Bay Guardian covering city government, freedom of information and environmental issues.
