There is no standard "right" way to focus on marine studies at the college. However, there are some courses that work best when taken in a certain sequence (and some have required prerequisites). All of these courses are described more fully in the list of Marine Studies courses. We have given a couple of standard examples of some of the courses and when they might be taken. We have not listed a full load of courses (three classes per term), just a subset of the classes that seems relevant or are required as part of the general college requirements (such as the Human Ecology core course in fall of Freshman year).
We have included three scenarios below, one for a student with strong interests in marine sciences, that we call marine ecology, a second scenario, for a student interested in a combination of marine biology and public policy, which might include interests in environmental policy or conservation biology, and a third scenario, marine biology and education for those interested in becoming teachers in either a traditional classroom setting or as outdoor or environmental educators.
