Simon Michaud '08 is interested in second language teaching. He believes that language is a key to people's understanding of the
world, and so he's spent time while at COA teaching French on campus, Spanish in a public school in Maine and English in Barcelona.
Simon is from Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, where he grew up surrounded by people from many different backgrounds and nationalities. This, he says, "has made me understand that it is of first importance to learn a person's language to fully understand how they perceive and understand the world." Ultimately, he hopes to create an alternative school that doesn't teach languages directly but uses language as a tool to learn other subjects. "Teachers with different cultural and language backgrounds will teach their subject in their first language leading the children to become fluent in several languages."
"Without any doubt, the feeling of closeness with my professors makes me feel supported and obliges me to push my limits further and further."
