This tutorial will focus on the basic principles of biophysics, biochemistry and physiology related to drug action and interaction, distribution, metabolism and toxicity. We will work our way through the on-line course materials provided for the MIT Graduate course HST-151. The text for the class will be Golan, D., et. al., eds. Principles of Pharmacology: The Pathophysiologic Basis of Drug Therapy. The tutorial will meet for two ninety minute sessions each week.  Students will take turns presenting the material and some classes will be spent meeting with local professionals associated with pharmacology.  At some point during the term, each student will also present a “case study” on pharmaceuticals used to treat a particular condition and on a drug recently approved by the FDA. Evaluations will be based on participation at class meetings, and the extent to which the student’s presentations demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts of the class.
