  • - Eleanor Gnam
  • Wandering the shores of Acadia, watching gulls on the sand bar, painting the seafoam from the slippery rocks, laughing with friends on the pier, staring at the night sky and feeling oh so small, watching the storm surge from Otter cliffs, sailing on Frenchman Bay

    - Rosie Iris Chater
  • The town is small and concentrated but becomes unusually busy in the summer months and the beginning and end of the school year. Poorly suited to agriculture and trade and traditionally hostile towards fishermen (through the park service), the town is overwhelmingly reliant on tourism. Areas immediately off the island, on the nearby islands, and on the southwest side tend to be more typical downeast communities, with their small, diversified farms, sprawling blueberry barrens that redden in the fall, thriving lobster fisheries, and clam flats.
