On campus and in town, students take part in pick-up and recreational games of soccer, cricket, ultimate Frisbee, and even quidditch. If the snow holds off long enough, the seasonal on-campus ice rink is a great spot for learning to skate or playing a pickup game of ice hockey.

We provide every student with a full membership to the local YMCA which includes access to a pool, weight room, indoor walking track, and special classes and programs such as Zumba®, AM abs, Tai Chi, basketball, water polo, and badminton (COA students and faculty have been known to take home a title or two in the local tournament).

“Playing soccer with COA students is so much fun! There are people of all skill levels playing, but they are all just there to have a blast. We will spend about a half an hour cheering and yelling ‘uno más!!’”

Fitness in the great outdoors

Acadia National Park is a remarkable place for running, cycling, walking, cross-country skiing, and hiking. There are over 40 miles of graded gravel carriage roads, great for running and bicycling, and over 120 miles of hiking trails. A favorite local spot, the 3.3 mile Witch Hole Pond loop, was named one of the top-ten “Can’t Miss Running Adventures” by Runner’s World magazine. And for the competitive set, individual entrants and teams can compete in local road races ranging from 5Ks to marathons.
