Focus your love for those someone specials - and also for the environment - at a workshop creating valentines from seaweeds. The annual Seaweed Valentine Workshop, at College of the Atlantic's George B. Dorr Museum of Natural History, runs on Saturday, February 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.

As you dry and place the seaweed into unique valentines, you'll also learn how to identify some of the species that thrive in the ocean. You might be working with sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca), Irish moss (Chondrus crispus), or dulse (Palmaria palmate). As you shape the salty leaves into hearts, you'll come to appreciate the special beauties of each species - and leave with a valentine that's a gift of the heart and the sea.

All ages are invited to the workshop, though children need to be accompanied by adults. There's a suggested donation of $3.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. For more information on the Saturday, Feb. 4 workshop from 1 to 4 p.m., call the Dorr Museum at 288 5395.
