College of the Atlantic is committed to helping students create extraordinary learning experiences on campus and beyond. The support of several generous donors has enabled the college to offer financial assistance for student research and travel.
- Beinecke Student Travel and Living Assistance Fund. Provides travel and living expenses associated with the internship program.
- Shelby Cullom Davis Student International Studies Fund. Provides support for advanced individual or collaborative work that builds on previous academic interests or that explores new dimensions of a problem or issue in an international context. In a typical year, around eight awards are given; the average award is $1,000. The awards are determined by the international studies committee.
- Rabineau Student Senior Project and Professional Development Fund. Provides support for professional development activities, typically attendance at a professional or academic conference. This fund also provides support for students engaged in research for their senior project.
- Doug Rose GIS Enhancement Fund. Supports attendance at conferences on the development and applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software.
- Maurine and Robert Rothschild Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Fund. Supports research projects that engage students directly in collaborative projects with faculty members. Established in 2004, this fund currently awards around $5,000 per year to students and faculty.
For additional information about any of these funds, contact Marie Stivers, Manager of Academic Services. If you are interested in making a donation to one of these funds or to create a new fund to support student work, contact the development office.
In addition to these funds for student research and projects, COA offers a variety of need- and merit-based scholarships and fellowships. For details, please consult our financial aid web pages or contact Bruce Hazam, director of financial aid.
