(Dover, N.H..October 1st, 2005) EcoFish, the nation's pioneer and leading supplier of seafood exclusively from environmentally sustainable fisheries, announced today that Havana Restaurant and Rupununi Restaurant of Bar Harbor Maine have been bestowed with the prestigious "EcoFish Restaurant of the Month" designation, for the month of October.
Henry Lovejoy, president and founder of EcoFish states, "We are thrilled to have named Havana and Rupununi as our joint restaurant of the month. Both Havana and Rupununi have a long-standing track record of purchasing local and organic products, and sustainably harvested seafood. We are proud to have them as a valued customer in providing their patrons with premium quality all-natural sustainable seafood, and to be able to acknowledge their stellar commitment to the future of the ocean world. They are leading by example!"
In order to be considered for this honor, a restaurant must have displayed a solid ongoing commitment to provide its customers consistently with seafood options on its menu that originate from environmentally sustainable fisheries. These fisheries must display abundant populations, have solid management, limited by-catch, and minimal habitat disruption. Restaurants purchasing from EcoFish, have access to EcoFish's exclusive product list, which is selected by a world-class Advisory Board from the marine conservation community.
Michael Boland, owner of Havana Restaurant, says "Havana has been serving sustainable seafood for seven years and Rupununi for over ten years. In the beginning it was difficult to find out information on the many different species available, not to mention getting good quality fresh products. When I discovered EcoFish it was literally a dream come true. I had wished for just such a company for several years. I spent some time and searched on line for information on sustainable seafood, and lo and behold, the answer to my prayers. We have been faithful customers ever since, and have been extremely pleased with the service, product, and ethical standards set by EcoFish. Living here on the coast of Maine we get a lot of questions about seafood, so we have many opportunities to introduce our guests to the issues surrounding our precious oceans. I never hesitate to bring up these issues, and slide in a pitch for purchasing sustainable seafood."
