An Overview: This project was related to the Taunton Bay Study. The goal of the pilot project in collaborative bay management is to promote the values of ecosystem-based management, improve marine conservation, and help reduce resource user conflicts through research, education and stakeholder involvement. One of the aspects of the project consists of mapping various components of the area such as habitats or wildlife distribution using GIS. Environmental data were collected and/or digitized by the president of Friends of Taunton Bay and state and federal agencies such as the Maine DMR and the Office of GIS. These data were used to produce a series of thematic maps designed to educate stakeholders about the ecology of Taunton Bay. GIS Map
Map Summary: This map is a descriptive map which depicts the Taunton Bay watershed and subwatersheds and their hydrologic characteristics such as streams, wetlands, aquifers or hydric soils. Knowledge of the hydrological characteristics of the watershed can help anticipate or evaluate flooding events, pollution flumes, and development suitability and is therefore useful for effective managment.
