The Ethel H. Blum Gallery presents an evocative show using Polaroid transfers from May 16 though May 21 with an opening on Thursday, May 15 at 4 p.m.

The exhibit, "Foreign Bodies: an exploration in Polaroid Photography and the Human Form" is by COA senior Elizabeth Anderson of Portland, and features the special characteristics of light and mood that Polaroid transfers can create.

Anderson says she obtained a Polaroid camera about five years ago and began exploring using it for film transfers. Using the older-style Polaroid film, that peels apart, Anderson prematurely exposes the negative, and instead of letting it transfer onto the photographic paper, she transfers her images onto heavily textured watercolor paper, or possibly other substances.

To make several images, sometimes Anderson begins with slide film, which is then transferred to Polaroid. The intent, however is to be able to use the special quality of the transfers. Her subjects are the human form, in various locations, with a focus on light, line and color.
