ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION POSITIONS ARE STILL OPEN

Job description for Program Leader (PL)

Under the supervision of the Summer Field Studies Coordinator and Museum Education Director, the Summer Field Studies Program Leader is responsible for:
  • Designing, preparing, and teaching environmental and outdoor education activities in collaboration with assistant program leaders.
  • Creating the safest possible environment for all student activities
  • Upholding SFS program standards.

  • Supervising, evaluating and working closely with Assistant Program Leaders.

  • Program support -which includes; inventory and maintain equipment, coordinate with other program leaders, contribute to SFS curriculum materials, evaluate programs and perform similar duties at discretion of director.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will:

  • possess a B.A./B.S. or equivalent experience, preferably with an emphasis in environmental education, early childhood education, life sciences, or related field.

  • have extensive experience working with children.

  • possess knowledge of ecology and natural history, preferably of coastal Maine.

  • demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility and leadership.

  • have current first aid, CPR and water safety certifications or willingness to acquire prior to start of program

  • be skilled in canoeing (for grades 5-9)

  • be able to drive a fifteen passenger van.

 

SALARY

program leader $3,100-3,700 for season


PROGRAM SCHEDULE:

Staff training: June 19 - June 27

Program sessions: June 30 - August 14

Closure/wrap-up: August 15- August 16

Most sessions meet for nine days (Monday through Friday of the first week and Monday through Thursday of the second week) from 9-3. The second Friday is a work day for meeting, planning and staff development. Planning and staff meetings are also scheduled before and after the participants' day.

Housing: Off season rate rental is available in a 6 bedroom home in Town Hill.  Or, staff may seek their own accommodations, campsite etc; we are happy to provide assistance in this.
