Renovating The Turrets

turretsIn 1895 John J. Emery commissioned the construction of The Turrets, a three-story Chateau-style cottage designed by Bruce Price.

As an historical landmark The Turrets is a jewel of the COA campus, and indeed Mount Desert Island. COA wants to honor this legacy by keeping The Turrets well-maintained, accessible, and safe.

Research Stations

Although the Coastguard maintains right of access to the aids to navigation equipment on the islands,  the College is responsible for the buildings and maintenance of the structures on both Mount Desert Rock and Great Duck Island. Mount Desert Rock suffered serious damage after Hurricane Bill blew through the gulf in 2009. The generator shed needs to be rebuilt, the buildings need new paint, and the house needs some sprucing up.
