Set your sights on the vibrant colors and patterns found all around you—the wings of a bird, the scales of a fish, the crystals in granite, and the petals of a flower.  Head down to the beach, into the forest, and through the garden to discover the rainbow of plants and animals that don brilliant hues and consider why this helps them survive. Be inspired to paint, tell stories, collect treasures, and play games!

4-day Session: $200 Local / $250 Non-Local

Daisies, dandelions, daffodils and beyond—discover a rainbow of flowers and the intricate parts that make them so fascinating. Gather bouquets to take home, press tiny buds, and search for the pollinators, bugs, and bees that are allured by the flowers’ fragrance. Taste lily buds, nasturtium flowers, and other edible blossoms. Make way to the gardens, fields, and shoreline for a colorful week of fun and adventure.

Forest Friends

July 10 – July 14
5-Day Session: $250 Local / $300 Non-Local

Venture down to the woods to visit with the creatures wriggling in the leaf litter, perched on branches, and hopping from limb to limb. Come with an observant eye, as we explore the mushrooms, moss, rocks, and plants that live on the forest floor and make crafts to accompany them. Build fairy houses, make bark prints, play games, find food caches, and be enchanted by the forest friends we meet.

Bring your bathing suit and goggles to explore what critters and treasures you may find along our rocky shore. Learn about the world beneath the waves through stories, projects, games and songs. Make works of art with seaweed and seashells and find creatures amidst the pools of the intertidal, while taking a dip in Frenchman Bay and enjoying our beautiful coastline.

The Five Senses

Look high and low, listen to the waves wash in and out, feel the cool grass on your feet, taste delicious treats fresh from the garden, and smell the salt air wafting off of the bay. Appeal to all five of your senses and discover the ways that other living things sense the world around them.  Play games, make crafts, and explore the secret nooks of COA’s campus too!

Bug World

Take a closer look at the billions of little lives that surround us.  On your skin, beneath the soil, under tree bark, or along the shoreline— it is inevitable we will come across a six, eight, or hundred-legged friend. With magnifying glass in hand, see another side of the insects with which we share our world.  Bees, wolf spiders, roly-polys, butterflies, crabs, ladybugs, slugs, and lobsters are just a few of these bizarre animals you might encounter.

Seed To Sprout

August 14 – August 17
4-day Session: $200 Local / $250 Non-Local

What does it take to make a seed sprout? A garden grow? Roll up your sleeves, grab a trowel, and come learn about the magic that happens when you combine seeds, sun, soil, water, worms, and a little love. Plant seeds, harvest fresh vegetables, and observe the interesting insects that help the SFS garden grow. Create beautiful portable gardens, fairy houses and artwork; learn about the magic of seeds, sing songs, play games, and explore what grows in the forest, fields and at the seashore!
