June 26 – June 3
5-Day Session: $250 Local / $300 Non-Local

This is the ultimate fort-building session! Explore the many ways to construct shelters using sticks, cardboard, living walls, and beyond. Build forts, nests and boroughs while learning about how animals make their homes as well. From beehives to birdhouses—draw inspiration from the natural world and design your own shelters, shacks, and shanties! Games, papier mâché art, and songs, too!

Ways of the Wabanaki

July 3 – July 14 [*There will be no SFS on the 4th of July]
2-Week Session: $400 Local / $450 Non-Local

Forage for natural materials to make everything from the edible to the artistic. Weave with found grasses and bark, forage for plants to make tasty tea and feel the rhythms of drums and flute playing. Learn some of the ways of the Wabanaki people as you explore native Maine craft, cooking and traditions. Days are complete with swimming, exploring, hiking and games!

Wandering In Wetlands

July 17 – July 20
4-day Session: $200 Local / $250 Non-Local

Pull on your boots, gather your nets, jars, & scopes, and head down to the pond. There await turtles, frogs, dragonflies, water beetles, and teeming life amongst the still pools. We will brave the warm muddy shores to learn about water quality, catch tadpoles, and spot snapping turtles. Wade through cattails and watch the beavers at work. Hiking, swimming, and games will round out the week!

Aquatic Odyssey

July 24 – August 3
2-Week Session: $400 Local / $450 Non-Local

Splash around the aquatic ecosystems of MDI while learning about the plants and animals that make their home there. Hunt for crabs and sea urchins in the tide pools, learn to identify and press sea weed, and discover hidden beaches and coves on MDI’s coastline. Follow the gurgling current of streams and float on the still surface of a pond. Enjoy fun games, scavenger hunts, and crafts too!

Bright Barnyard

August 7 – August 11
5-Day Session: $250 Local / $300 Non-Local

To the farm we go!  Spend your days in the barnyard with the colorful parade of chickens, cows, ducks, pigs, sheep, geese and guinea hens. Get your hands dirty in the ground, harvest seasonal veggies, and prepare farm-fresh lunches, while getting a glimpse of our local food system through fun days spent at Peggy Rockefeller Farm, Beech Hill and other island farms. Watch closely as an egg hatches into a soft, little chick. Learn about the natural history of many edible crops, play games, make crafts with feathers, enjoy a refreshing swim, and plant a seed of wonder this summer exploring the bright barnyard.

One Fish, Two Fish

August 14 – August 17
4-day Session: $200 Local / $250 Non-Local

Holy Mackeral! Cast a line into the depths of MDI’s lakes, ponds, streams, and harbors to see what we can turn up with fishing hooks, jigs, or nets. Experience MDI’s fishing heritage first hand while crafting lures to stock your tackle box and working on your angling skills. Make gyotaku fish prints, identify freshwater & saltwater fish, spend time with staff from Downeast Salmon Federation, and take home your very own hand line.
