SUMMARY:Intro to fruit tree care
DESCRIPTION:This installation of the COA Food and Farming Workshop Series covers key areas essential to healthy\, productive fruit trees – from choosing the right site to pruning\, pest management\, and ongoing seasonal care. \nParticipants will get practical demonstrations and an opportunity to try seasonally appropriate tasks such as pest monitoring and soil building. The session wraps up with an open discussion\, with time for answers to specific fruit tree questions and challenges. Great for beginners and home growers looking to build knowledge and skills. \nInstructor C.J. Walke is the Orchard Program Manager for Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association and manager of the 10-acre educational and preservation-focused Maine Heritage Orchard. He is the former manager of COA Peggy Rockefeller Farm. \nThis event is part of the COA Food & Farming Workshop Series\, sponsored by the COA Food Systems Working Group and the Henry David Thoreau Foundation. \nWe will be standing outdoors in a small orchard for the duration of the workshop. Please dress appropriately. Light drizzle will not deter us\, but check back for updates in the event of serious weather. \nRegistration (recommended): https://dub.sh/fruit-reg
