Computer labToo few students know how to write well when they arrive at college. Further, nearly 20% of COA’s student body is international, and English may not be their first language. Writing well is a skill every student will master before he or she graduates from COA.

But the way we communicate in the 21st century is changing. We rely on the integration of the printed word with other forms of data and media. The combining of different modes of expression is called multi-modal communication and students today need to master it. The Writing for the Future program will provide faculty support in composition and technical writing, expand the college’s writing tutor program, and institute new methods of communication to ensure COA students are prepared for today’s labor market.

Update: Thanks to the Broad Reach campaign, the Writing for the Future program has been endowed.
