Read chapter one of Praxis: A Graphic Novel by Aneesa Khan ’17

Praxis: A Graphic Novel by Aneesa Khan ’17 delves into the experiences of climate activists of color. Chapter one is now live at the Stewart Hall Foundation.

“Praxis is an attempt to learn from the experiences of those who are simultaneously on the front lines of the crisis and at the forefront of change,” Khan writes. “It’s an experiment in retelling the story of climate change where it’s assumed victims are actually its most consisted and committed adversaries.”

Born in South India and raised in Oman, Khan joined the climate justice movement as a student with a passion for environmental law and creative storytelling. She started by organizing for climate reparations at the UN climate talks where she worked to make sure the voices of black, brown, indigenous, and Global South youth were heard loud and clear over those of polluting industries.

Khan has multiple years experience of organizing in the US and globally as an activist with Friends of the Earth International, The Wilderness Society, and most recently, SustainUS – a youth-led climate justice organization where she served as the executive director. She currently works as the Communications Officer for Oil Change International to expose the true cost of fossil fuels on people and the planet. She specializes in telling stories of environmental inequity and injustice through graphic design. Aneesa holds a BA in human ecology from College of the Atlantic and a Master’s in environmental policy and regulation from the London School of Economics.
