The Maine poet Gary Lawless will be reading from his new collection entitled, “Caribou Planet” on 4:10 on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 in the McCormick Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Published by Blackberry Books, Caribou Planet is a 140 page collection of poems “selected for the animals”, with artwork and photography by Stephen Petroff, Li Ching Accurso, Richard Lee, Kimberly Callas, Roger Leisner and Beth Leonard.

Lawless, who has co-owned Gulf of Maine Books in Brunswick since 1979 and co-founded Blackberry Books in the mid-70s, apprenticed with Gary Snyder for a year in 1975. Lawless’s publications include a wide variety of chapbooks, as well as editing the anthology Poems for the Wild Earth, and his own collections, Caribouddhism and In Ruins. In addition to his work sharing poetry with homeless and disabled citizens, Lawless has also given readings in Italy, Slovenia, Cuba, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia and has recently returned from St. Lucy’s in Venice.
