Blue-eyed shags were a common site during the cruise, but were particularly abundant close to land, and on islands where they form large colonies, often with other species. The blue ring around the eye appears in mature animals during breeding and courtship (Hosking and Sage 1982). The below shots were taken on New Island, in the Falklands, 51°44'S, 57°49'W (see map).
