Workshop description

Always wanted to learn to draw? This four day intensive is ideally suited for complete novices in drawing or for those who want to improve their skills. Students will develop an understanding of structure, form, values, proportion, line and mass drawing.

We will review the basics of drawing, technique and materials and work with a variety of subjects but primarily will work in the natural environment of Acadia National Park and on campus at College of the Atlantic.

Specific lessons will focus on drawing trees, rocks, mountains and how light falls on the landscape.

This workshop is ideal for beginners to intermediate skill level.

Judy knows the island intimately and will take you to some of her favorite places to work each morning. Taking our sketchbooks, we will explore the beautiful landscape scenery that makes this a destination for painters, returning to campus for lunch at midday. We will have one very early morning day to catch the special light on top of Cadillac Mountain and one full day on the Cranberry Islands.

Students will be lodged on the ocean at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor with three meals a day from one of the highest rated college kitchens in the country.
