The presence of three Adelie penguin colonies in Antarctica’s Weddell Sea suggest the area remains a climate refuge for these penguins. The discovery of the colonies by the Greenpeace vessel, Arctic Sunrise, is featured in The Evening Standard. Alex Borowicz ’14 is one of the researchers onboard the Arctic Sunrise!
Greenpeace has said that, despite ecosystem changes at the edge of the Weddell Sea, there does not seem to be any negative effects on the Adelie penguins that have been there for centuries.
