The Sneeze comprises four short stories and four short plays by Anton Chekhov, translated and adapted for the stage by Michael Frayn. While Chekhov dismissively sub-titled many of his comic shorts as little more than “a joke in one act,” Frayn’s artful selection distills the brilliant oddity and depth of Chekhov’s comedy.

This production of The Sneeze was the culmination of a ten-week course in collective creative process, during which students participated in all aspects of staging and mounting a play, exploring text and context through action. Their spirited performances at Bar Harbor’s Criterion Theatre drew hearty laughs, cheers, and applause from eager audiences.
