Whale number na4756, first seen in the Cape Verde Islands in 2009 and again in 2011, was photographed in the French West Indies in 2012 before returning to the Cape Verde Islands again in 2013.
The discovery of this unusual long-distance movement between these discrete breeding areas was the result of a large-scale international collaboration involving:
- Bios.CV
- The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group working in the Cape Verde Islands
- BREACH
- the National Marine Mammal Lab of NOAA in the French West Indies.
The resighting was made by researchers from the North Atlantic Humpback Whale Catalog, a central database for humpback whale identification photographs from across the ocean basin, curated by Allied Whale.
