Boat Sales and Donations

college of the atlantic
Support experiential education
As a nonprofit educational institution, College of the Atlantic welcomes boat donations that support our maritime programs and student learning opportunities. Your vessel could become a floating classroom—helping students learn navigation, research methods, and seamanship firsthand.
Donated boats may be used in our curriculum, marine operations, or sold to raise funds for COA’s waterfront programs. All gifts are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
How the donation process works
Before donating a vessel, we ask potential donors to consider key logistical and financial factors, including:
- Transportation and delivery logistics
- Storage capacity at COA
- General condition, maintenance, or repair needs
For vessels valued over $5,000, we recommend commissioning a professional marine survey, which can help with both our internal review and your tax documentation.
To finalize a donation, the following are required:
- Valuation documentation
- Completed and notarized USCG Bill of Sale
- Vessel year, make, and model
- Donor’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Social Security Number (SSN)
Boats previously for sale (now sold)
Although these vessels have been sold, they reflect the variety of boats COA has successfully used and rehomed through our donation program.
