Health & Wellness

Well-being shaped by connection, care, and purpose

Wellness is an essential part of the COA educational journey. We believe that personal health, community care, and sustainability are deeply interconnected. That’s why we take a holistic approach to wellness—encouraging lifelong habits that strengthen both the individual and the community.

Wellness as human ecology

Wellness at COA is rooted in human ecology—the understanding that health includes every part of life:

  • Our minds and bodies
  • Our social networks
  • Our environment
  • Our financial and professional paths
  • Our sense of purpose and meaning

We advocate for proactive health practices, offering programs and resources to help you thrive during your time at COA and beyond.

“A healthy attitude is contagious, but don’t wait to catch it from others. Be the carrier!”

The eight dimensions of wellness

Wellness is an active, ongoing process of making choices toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. At COA, we recognize eight interconnected dimensions:

  • Physical: Caring for your body through nutrition, exercise, and sleep.
  • Intellectual: Engaging your mind through creativity, learning, and critical thinking.
  • Emotional: Managing feelings, resilience, and mental health.
  • Social: Building meaningful relationships and supportive networks.
  • Occupational: Finding purpose and developing skills for meaningful work.
  • Environmental: Living sustainably and creating safe, healthy spaces.
  • Spiritual: Exploring values, intuition, and personal meaning.
  • Financial: Managing resources wisely now and planning for the future.

Wellness isn’t a destination—it’s a lifelong journey of awareness, intention, and growth.

Yoga and meditation at COA

Yoga and meditation are an integral part of life at COA, offering space to slow down, build awareness, and care for both body and mind. Free classes are offered weekly for students, staff, and faculty, creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome—whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the first time or returning with years of practice.

Classes draw from a variety of yoga traditions, with an emphasis on flexibility, strength, mindfulness, and relaxation. These practices align closely with COA’s human ecology values, supporting self-reflection, adaptability, and intentional living both on and off the mat.

Taking care of yourself is one of the best ways you can prepare to make positive change in the world.
