The Champlain Society (TCS), College of the Atlantic’s premier giving society, was created in 1988 to give appropriate recognition to those special friends who contribute at the highest levels to the Annual Fund. The importance of annual giving is critical to the stability and ongoing operations of the college. Such support advances the college’s mission, ensures academic excellence, provides financial aid where needed, and enhances the maintenance and stewardship of the campus.

Champlain Society giving levels:

President’s Circle $25,000+
Founder $10,000 to $24,999
Pathfinder $5,000 to $9,999
Discoverer $2,500 to $4,999
Explorer $1,500 to $2,499

In appreciation for the support of its members and to introduce new friends to the COA community, the Champlain Society hosts a variety of events throughout the summer that are designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, enhance opportunities for cultural engagement, and complement Mount Desert Island’s celebrated social environment. The Champlain Society solicitation appeal is mailed in the spring with a summer calendar of special events.

The Champlain Society membership year begins on July 1 and runs through COA’s fiscal year end on June 30. Memberships are welcome throughout the year!

Alumnx gifts are critical to College of the Atlantic. The Alumnx Leadership Circle (ALC) honors the generosity and philanthropic leadership of alumnx who give $500 or more to COA. In appreciation for this support, the Alumnx Relations and Development Office offer special events to our ALC members.

The Northern Lights Society

The Northern Lights Society is an association for individuals who have made planned gifts to benefit COA. These gifts include bequests, charitable gift annuities, and gifts of life insurance, to name a few.
