Internship Reports and Supervisor Evaluations

College of the Atlantic
After completing an internship, students submit a written report reflecting on their experience and an evaluation completed by their supervisor.
Report and evaluation due dates
The internship report and supervisor evaluation are due by Monday of week four during the term following the experience.
- Documents for spring and summer internships are due week four of fall term
- Documents for fall internships are due week four of winter term
- Documents for winter internship are due week four of spring term.
It is recommended but not required to have your report reviewed by the Writing Center.
Writing your internship report
The internship report and supervisor evaluation become a part of a student’s COA educational file, so attention should be paid to the organization, grammar, spelling, and content of the report. Think of your internship as a field studies course and your report and supervisor evaluation as your final paper. Internship report guidelines here.
Journals, published works, photographs, or recordings are encouraged to be submitted in addition to the internship report, and often act as important supplementary material, but these do not replace the report itself. Photos are strongly encouraged and should be added at the end of the report if included in the document—or submitted along with the report through the above link.
Reports should be a minimum of four to five pages total not counting any artifacts (approximately 1000 to 1250 words), and must be completed regardless of publication or written work completed for the internship organization. Reports do not have a page cap and often go much longer than five pages. Think of the internship report as a chance for you to brag about and reflect on what you accomplished during your experience—write your report like you are explaining your experience to someone who has no idea what you did.
Reports should include a title, abstract/self-evaluation, career ecosystems reflections, and connections to human ecology. Please refer to the details in the internship report guideline above.
Internship supervisor evaluation
Students should plan on meeting with and sharing the internship supervisor evaluation form with their supervisors early in their internship experience so both parties understand what is being covered in the evaluation. Supervisors should share their completed evaluation with students before the end of the internship experience and set up a time to discuss feedback.
Students, please submit your evaluation along with your report.
