Geographic Information Systems

The GIS Lab at College of the Atlantic is a dedicated, modern workspace located in the Davis Center for Human Ecology on the north end of campus. The lab supports classes, research, and community projects under the leadership of GIS Lab Director Gordon Longsworth ’90, who helped establish the lab and brings extensive expertise in environmental and spatial analysis.

State-of-the-art technology and software

  • 11 Dell Optiplex 7090 workstations, each equipped with industry-standard GIS software
  • ESRI University Site License, giving full access to the latest ArcGIS platforms, training, and data
  • ArcGIS Online organizational account and ArcGIS Pro with advanced extensions
  • Additional ESRI tools and apps for analysis, business, planning, mobile, and community engagement
  • Support for both web and desktop GIS workflows, including advanced modeling, urban planning, and field data collection

Industry experience for students

Our licensing and technical resources ensure students graduate with hands-on skills using current GIS technology, preparing them for research, internships, and professional work.
