Earth Week: Friends of Acadia roadside cleanup
Join Friends of Acadia for their annual trash pick-up event.
As early spring begins to warm the air and melt the snow on Mount Desert Island, it also reveals a long season’s worth of debris. With just a small amount of individual effort, together we can reduce the amount of trash in our communities and help protect our shared lands and waters. Each April for the last 25 years, volunteers rally on the roadsides of Mount Desert Island and Trenton to clean up what the winter left behind during the Earth Day Roadside Cleanup.
Prior to the Roadside Cleanup date, Friends of Acadia will be in touch with a section assignment and meet-up location for the day. Participants are welcome to request a preferred section assignment. On the day of, bring your positive attitude, a reusable water bottle, closed toed shoes, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Section leaders will bring trash bags, safety vests, gloves, water, and a light snack.
After cleaning up the roadsides, head over to The Annex (51 Rodick Street, Bar Harbor) for live music and revelry. Enjoy live tunes from Dakota from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 10% of food/drink proceeds will be donated to Friends of Acadia.
Contact Friends of Acadia Stewardship Manager Brian Sale with questions or to sign up to be a section leader.
