The Coffee & Conversation series features discussions between invited guests and COA faculty members and trustees. Sessions are held every Tuesday morning in July and August.

Summer Institute

The College of the Atlantic Summer Institute is a week-long ideas festival that welcomes leaders from around the world to share their expertise and thoughts on the most pressing issues of our time.

From July 31-August 4, join College of the Atlantic and the National Geographic Society for the 2023 Summer Institute: Reimagining Exploration, as we gather some of the greatest living explorers, writers, artists, and thinkers to help reimagine exploration.

    9:30am, Davis Center for Human Ecology The 2023 College of the Atlantic Coffee & Conversation series opens with author Kim Stanley Robinson speaking with COA professor Susan Letcher about climate change, writing utopian fiction, and the “last, best hope” to save the planet.

    At first light

    9:30am, Davis Center for Human Ecology Bowdoin College Museum of Art co-directors Dr. Anne Collins Goodyear and Dr. Frank Goodyear join photographer Walter Smalling and art critic Carl Little to discuss their book At First Light and the communities of artists and craftspeople who practice in Maine.
