An abandoned gravel pit in Hampden is the new home of a community solar farm.
In collaboration with Wishcamper Companies Inc., ReVision Energy’s Wishcamper Hampden solar array celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning.
The project took three years to complete and cost about $15 million between acquiring the land, development, and contracting.
Over 14,000 solar panels make up the 25-acre farm, boasting over 8,600 megawatt hours of energy annually.
College of the Atlantic is one offtaker who will receive its energy, whose involvement was pushed by a student-led movement for clean energy on campus. More specifically, a campus-wide initiative to get off fossil fuels by 2030.
“As the youth, it’s really in our hands to make progress in this country and to put pressure on our leaders that we need a climate resilient future. We need this as the youth and the people who will be inhabiting this planet,” says first-year College of the Atlantic student Tyler Hebert.
