Living with purpose
Student life at COA is shaped by the idea that education is about more than academics. We support students in developing their strengths, discovering what matters to them, and using their skills in ways that contribute to their communities.
where growth takes shape

Student Life at COA supports students in becoming engaged, self-aware, and accountable members of the community. Through shared responsibility, leadership, and intentional programming, we challenge and support students to grow, contribute, and lead. This work centers on four pillars of student life:
- Student support
- Student engagement
- Student leadership
- Student development
Student Life staff approach their work with compassion, empathy, humor, and integrity. We recognize that learning unfolds within the full context of students’ lives, and we work to cultivate a community that embraces challenge and support in equal measure—fostering resilience, responsibility, and growth.
We build this place together

Change is a central part of life at COA—and students play a real role in shaping the college. Through active participation in college governance, you’ll work alongside faculty, staff, and peers to make decisions that matter. It’s not always the easiest way to get things done, but it’s one of the best ways to learn leadership, collaboration, and real-world impact.
So many interests, only so much time

Knitting. Soccer. Poetry. Foraging. Activism. Circus arts. Rock climbing. You’ll find students at COA passionate about all kinds of pursuits. Student activities here blend organized clubs and spontaneous adventures—from hiking in Acadia National Park to performing at open mics, hosting lectures, and launching new initiatives. If you can’t find the group you’re looking for, you’ll probably start one.
You’ll forge your own path, but you won’t be alone

COA is built for self-directed people who dream big—but in a community where you’ll never feel invisible. With our small student body, collaborative spirit, and deep network of advisors and friends, you’ll always have a support system as you explore your passions and build your future.
And did we mention the food?

It’s ridiculously good (you’ll hear it from students, faculty, visitors, and event guests). Our dining program focuses on regional, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients—and whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, omnivore, or somewhere in between, you’ll find food that fuels you for the journey.
