Maine Transfer Guarantee

Find a Scholarship that suits you

The Maine Transfer Guarantee is a transfer partnership between the Maine Community College System and participating four-year colleges and universities. Eligible Maine Community College graduates are able to transfer seamlessly—admission guaranteed!

As part of our efforts to increase access to higher education, students who earn an associate degree through one of Maine’s community colleges with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above are guaranteed transfer admission to College of the Atlantic. There is no application fee, and no admission essays or letters of recommendation are required.

Use the COA Application to apply to COA as part of the Maine Transfer Guarantee. Once you indicate that you are applying as a transfer student from a Maine community college you will not be required to submit admission essays or academic recommendations.

In addition to the application form, Maine Transfer Guarantee applicants must submit copies of community college transcripts. Final high school transcripts are not required as part of the application, but will be required in order to register for classes.

Maine Transfer Guarantee applicants may apply to start during the fall, winter, or spring trimesters, using the following application deadlines:

  • Fall term: Apply by March 15; official response to applicants by April 15; start date September
  • Winter term: Apply by November 1; official response to applicants by November 15; start date January
  • Spring term: Apply by February 1; office response to applicants by February 15; start date March/April

All students admitted under the Maine Transfer Guarantee will be awarded a $30,000 community college scholarship ($15,000/year for up to two years). Additional need-based financial aid typically includes additional scholarships (the amount is determined based on your financial need), a work-study job on campus, and federal need-based financial aid (including subsidized Stafford loans and Pell grants where eligible). Learn more about how to apply for financial aid at COA.
